Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

Previous editions: Haas 1970: 238-43.

This text belongs to the group of cult inventories pertaining to the holy town of Nerik (Cammarosano 2018: 332 with literature, add this text to the list; for the classification of this tablet see id. 2013: 80). King Tudḫaliya, who is mentioned several times (ii 1′, 3′, and 15′, in the last occurrence the name is abbreviated Tut), instituted additional offerings to those already arranged by his father (referred to in ii 13′). Similarly to what can be observed in other cult inventories referring to major cult centers, the rites are more elaborate than is usual in the corpus. In this case, they include an offering of wine, a set of libations, and an offering table displayed on the roof. The gods treated on the tablet belong to the circle of the Storm god of Nerik. Note that the deity Kurušiyati is attested only here and in KBo 26.212, and based on the script an indirect join between the two fragments seems possible.

Palaeography and orthography: Late QA (ii 14′).

ii 15′: The unique abbreviation Tut for Tudḫaliya (Cammarosano 2012: 22 fn. 54) is due to the fact that the scribe reached the end of the line.

b. e. 3: For šarā penna- see CHD P 267, but correct the spelling cited on p. 264 as “pé-en-na!-i! (text pé-en-ia or -i-a).”

iii 7: Note the separate offering “at the altar” for the Storm god of Nerik.
